READ THE NUMBERS CORRECTLY

What salary statistics can tell you

01

Median vs average

The median is the midpoint worker; the mean can be pulled upward by high earners. Prefer medians when asking what a typical worker earns.

02

Gross vs take-home

Gross earnings are before employee deductions. Take-home pay depends on tax residence, payroll contributions, benefits and personal circumstances.

03

Occupation & experience

Job title, seniority, qualifications, location, industry and working hours all affect pay. Broad occupation groups cannot establish a precise experience-level salary.

04

Purchasing power

Exchange rates do not measure living standards. Rent, healthcare, transport, household size and taxes need a separate, location-specific cost comparison.

METHODOLOGY

Why we avoid a simple “highest-paying country” ranking.

National datasets differ in survey design, reference period, occupation classification, coverage of self-employed workers, treatment of bonuses and whether earnings are hourly, weekly or monthly. A fair comparison requires aligned definitions and a consistent worker profile.

SalarySach currently provides country calculators for estimated payroll outcomes and a separate comparison tool for visitor-entered salary figures. This intelligence page links to official statistical sources; it does not claim that all eight markets have harmonised occupation-level benchmarks.
