How UAE salary and gratuity work
- Income tax: the UAE currently has no general personal income tax on employment salary.
- Expatriate employees: generally do not pay UAE social security contributions. Their private-sector end-of-service gratuity is normally calculated from basic salary, excluding allowances.
- Standard private-sector gratuity: after at least one year of continuous service, 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years, then 30 days for each additional year. The total is capped at two years' wage.
- UAE nationals: mandatory pension contributions apply, with rates depending on the applicable pension law, joining date, emirate and registered contribution salary.
- Other GCC nationals: social insurance is generally governed by their home-country scheme under the GCC extension system.
The gratuity estimate assumes full-time private-sector coverage under the standard UAE Labour Law, continuous service, no unpaid absence deductions, and current basic salary held constant for the whole service period. It does not calculate partial-year proration with exact dates, contract-specific arrangements, employer deductions, alternative savings scheme balances, or special free-zone regimes. The pension scenarios are illustrative and must be confirmed against the employee's actual registration.
SalarySach provides general educational estimates, not legal, tax, payroll or financial advice. Eligibility and actual entitlements depend on nationality, pension registration, employer sector, contract, work location and applicable legislation.
