2026–27 calculation rules
- Australian residents: $18,200 tax-free threshold; 15% on the next $26,800; 30% from $45,000 to $135,000; 37% from $135,000 to $190,000; and 45% above $190,000.
- Foreign residents: no tax-free threshold; 30% up to $135,000, 37% from $135,000 to $190,000, and 45% above $190,000.
- Working holiday makers: 15% on the first $45,000, then 30%, 37% and 45% across the higher bands.
- Medicare levy: generally 2% for residents eligible for Medicare. The model uses the latest legislated single low-income thresholds of $28,011 and $35,013.
- HELP repayments use the 2026–27 marginal repayment schedule where selected.
Employer superannuation is not deducted from take-home pay. The Super Guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2025; from 1 July 2026 Payday Super changes when employers pay it, not the employee's net salary calculation.
This estimate excludes the Medicare Levy Surcharge, Low Income Tax Offset (LITO), private health rebate, deductions, offsets, salary sacrifice, reportable fringe benefits, other income, partial Medicare exemptions, and payroll-period withholding differences. HELP is estimated using gross salary only, not full repayment income. It is not a payslip or tax-return calculation.
SalarySach provides general educational estimates, not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Actual tax liability depends on your residency, Medicare eligibility, deductions, offsets and full repayment income. Check with the ATO or a registered tax agent.
